If you'd like to see the Muse come to your event, be in touch. Love to share the Love! This is a great post show all nighter opportunity for TRUE community sharing beyond what "performances" offer in a different and more personalized way, empowering people to express themselves in a supportive container.

The Magical Mystical Muse Tribe is a space for sharing related to the creation of a unique cultural contribution that is truly "ours" to claim, to shape and to pass on to the future. It has roots in every culture, and expands us beyond the boundaries of any one "tradition" or practice by bringing them all into one space to UNITE and go beyond any specific practice to create something fresh and in the moment where spirit truly lives. It's foundation is musical expression through drumming, dance and "tribal" elements.

The Magical Mystical Muse is a transformational process where each individual is empowered to bring their own voice and offering to a circle of other beings who are committed to supporting each other through artistic expressions of the muse in all it's forms. It is about being witnessed, being heard, listening, and observing. It is about empowering as you are being empowered, healing and ultimately UNITY IN LOVE!

Musers are conscious co-creators of this transformational container consisting of sound, movement, spoken word, art, magic, and more. The muse lives through us as the human instrument of the divine.

I got to experience Aphrodesia on Sat night at Coopers Saloon in Nevada City, CA. They are an 11 piece musical extravaganza featuring a highly original brand of ‘Super Aphro Beat' mixed with a very uncompromising political stance. From San Francisco these guys filled Coopers and everyone was dancing up a storm to their African sound. They just returned from an incredible journey that took them from a small village market in Binaba, Ghana, to the stage of the legendary Shrine in Lagos, Nigeria, where Aphrodesia was the first American band ever to play. I'm sure glad they came to Nevada City. Looking forward to their return to our area.

Dear Friends,

Aphrodesia, a 10 piece afro beat orchestra from San Francisco, has been invited by the African Showboyz to tour West Africa this Feburary, 2006 for one month. We are honored to be invited to Ghana. This is our second invitation to Ghana in the past year, as we were invited to participate in PANAFEST 2005, one of Ghana and West Africa’s biggest music festivals, by Kojo Yanka, one of the festival’s main organizers. Unfortunately, we were not able to attend because we did not have adequate sponsorship for airfare and other travel expenses.

Aphrodesia’s music draws heavily on the diverse musical styles of West Africa, and the chance to tour there presents us with an opportunity to gain immeasurable musical and life experience. In addition to our own personal enrichment, we have two goals we plan to accomplish through this tour.

One of these goals is to record an album with the African Showboyz and other West African artists in Accra, Ghana at the end of the tour. Our collaboration with the Showboyz at the Earthdance Festival was only the start of what we feel can be an incredible cross-cultural undertaking. We expect to excite potential record labels for support in this project.
Another goal is to convert a bus in Ghana which will be powered by recycled vegetable oil and biodiesel. Our invitation to tour West Africa is an unprecedented opportunity that can bring international attention to the environmental devastation that West Africa has been experiencing for decades due to the oil crisis. David Sartore, Aphrodesia’s guitarist, has co-founded the Clean Fuel Caravan Coalition, an organization that brings together clean fuel advocates that share resources and information about clean fuels and sustainable living practices. Our connection with the Coalition allows us to work with top of the line bio-mechanics who will be converting our bus to run on vegetable oil in Ghana. In addition, Aphrodesia has been touring the United States in a bus powered by biofuels for two years and has received national attention- including a cover story in USA Today.

The Biodiesel movement is in its infancy in Ghana and is looking for more support to make it a viable fuel, and this tour can help advertise start-up companies and bring the idea of renewable local-based fuels to thousands of people. Through this tour, which crosses many borders, we hope to accelerate the renewable energy movement in West Africa and bring hope to the people.

We will be having a professional documentary made of the tour, and we also will be working with a publicist who can bring as much international attention to this story as possible. In a world where much of the news stories we hear are about disaster and war we want to bring a story of hope that will help bring many cultures together around two positive forces, music and cleaner renewable energy.

Aphrodesia and the African Showboyz are seeking sponsorship to make this tour happen on a professional level. The Clean Fuel Caravan Coalition has non-profit status so donations are tax-deductible.
We look forward to speaking with you about your interest in this project.

Sincerely,

For the month of June, I made a guest mix for DJ Rich Woods' website (www.djrichwoods.com). If you would like to download a copy of this mix, just go to his website and click under the "Guest Mix" link toward the bottom of the page. I put a lot of thought into this one, and I hope you like it. Feedback is always appreciated so please let me know what you think!

Aphrodesia, the explosive San Francisco-based afrobeat ensemble that made national headlines last summer by driving cross country in a vegetable oil-powered bus as part of the “Just Vote Tour”, will headline a “Veggie Oil Power Fundraiser” on March 11 at the Elbo Room in San Francisco. All the band’s proceeds from the show will go towards its new vegetable oil powered bus, a converted city transit bus from Santa Clarita, California.

Born in San Francisco a little over two years ago, the 11-member Aphrodesia has won national accolades both for its music and its commitment to social activism. The East Bay Express picked the band’s first CD, “Shackrobeat Vol. 1”, as one of its top albums of 2003, and the band’s live performances have earned raves everywhere from the pages of Global Rhythm Magazine to Jambase.com. Meanwhile, the band’s “Just Vote Tour”, a nationwide voter registration-themed tour focusing primarily on swing states and landing in New York City during the Republican National Convention, deposited the band on the cover of USA Today, and the Bay Area-based Common Ground Magazine featured the band on its cover because of its commitment to driving on alternative fuel.

The band’s habit of driving in a vegetable oil-powered vehicle is more than just window dressing. “We want to walk the walk as well as talk the talk,” explains founder and bassist Ezra Gale. “We can’t be anti-war and pro-environment and drive around in a big petroleum-fueled tour bus,” he adds.

Aphrodesia’s old bus, a converted airport shuttle bus nicknamed the “Votemobile” for the cross-country ‘Just Vote Tour’, carried the band at least 10,000 miles solely on vegetable oil. The band plans to continue that tradition in its new bus, which is equipped with 300-gallon vegetable oil tanks and is considerably better suited to carrying a band of Aphrodesia’s size. To help pay the costs of the new bus and of converting it to run on vegetable oil, the band is throwing a “Veggie Oil Power Fundraiser” at the Elbo Room on March 11, with all proceeds going towards the cost of the new bus.

“Veggie Oil Power Fundraiser” featuring Aphrodesia with DJ Oaty Love, Friday, March 11, at the Elbo Room, 647 Valencia,, SF, (415) 552-7788, 10PM- 2 AM; $7-$20 donation requested.
